Exercise is all important, as our busy stressful lifestyles can leave us feeling unbalanced and out of control. Most of us know that chronic worrying and too much stress will produce negative effects in the body, but often we don’t know how to shed those negative feelings and relax. This is where exercise can step in and help you reduce stress- and lose weight at the same time. Exercise can include practicing yoga, pilates, going to the gym, playing sports, swimming or jogging. However, in my opinion simply walking with friends is a fantastic way to start.
One of the best aspects of utilizing exercise to reduce stress, is that it also tones the body, helps you lose weight, strengthens your bones and promotes the production of our ‘happy hormone’ Serotonin. What I also find is exercise breeds energy, as well as a positive outlook – being tired is not a reason to miss your class, workout or walk…I can guarantee you will feel more energized at the end of your session!
Yogalates is a mind-body exercise, because it melds physical and mental disciplines with the goal of achieving peacefulness of both body and mind. Yogalates helps you relax and manage stress and anxiety, while at the same time the physical aspects will help tone muscles, improve flexibility, burn calories and aid in weight control. Yoga exercises foster a calmer, mindful state that remains long after you have finished your session. The breathing and mental focus used during these types of exercises can be greatly beneficial for anyone who feels the need to calm down after a stressful day. You can find a studio and attend classes for Yoga and Pilates easily. In fact, people who enjoy different types of activities and classes would probably benefit from finding a studio with variety of different classes with qualified teachers, who would help correct improper technique as well as offer guidance and advice.
We are all different and it is important to make sure you start by picking an exercise that you actually enjoy. Don’t start an exercise routine that you hate just because you think it will be good for your body. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you will be far less likely to continue doing it. And when it comes to exercise, there are so many choices that everybody can find something they enjoy. If you are just starting out, keep it simple and keep it fun.
